Mamud Band are back on the scene with a new sextet
and a brand new album, "The Monkey Tapes” out
October the 7th on Garrincha GoGo, Garrincha
dischi’s sister label devoted to world music and funk
and already known for Savana Funk and Fanfara
Station.
Mamud Band are an afrofunk ensemble internationally
recognized for the intensity of their performance, and
their prestigious collaborations with the jazz legend
Lester Bowie, Fela Kuti’s drummer Tony Allen,
Jessica Lurie and Harouna Dembele just to name a
few.
This new chapter expands the afrofunk esthetic with
touches of hip-hop and a massive use of keyboards and

synthesizers to support the distinctive horns’ arrange-
ments and the hypnotic percussion grooves.

The engaging sound of “The Monkey Tapes” is always
on a fine line between vintage and modern, warm and
raw, hypnotic and danceable.
